Sunrise with the Gladiators

This amphitheatre was built by the Romans at the end of the first century AD. The Nimes amphitheatre is one of the largest in Roman Gaul and measures about 133m long and seats around 20,000 spectators. It is still used regularly today for all types of concerts - this summer, I noticed that it had hosted Mika, Jamiroquoi, ZZ Top and Mark Knopfler!

This view looks across the Place des Arenes towards the Palais de Justices and La Chapelle Ste Perpetué. During my walk-about I was dogged ny scaffolding, complete renovation of the main square, roadworks and far too much traffic. So up at dawn the next morning to avoid the traffic and people and an angle of view to miss the rest!
