Bonus shot for the day...
Ordinarily, surfers are not allowed to jump off the Oceanana Pier in Atlantic Beach, NC. But, when faced with massive waves, huge foam piles, and a long, tiring paddle to get to the lineup, the urge to jump must be irresistible.
As Hurricane Earl was passing by and the surf was firing off, any number of surfers came running out to the end of the pier (before they were caught), jumping about 25 feet below to the water. Most did a basic feet-first entry.
Not this guy. He threw his board down to the water, hopped up on the railing, turned around, and did a massive-air backflip for his entry.
We gave him a 9.2.
And in case you were wondering, it takes a set of three to do this into fifteen-foot storm surf.
