Laguna Cove at Sunset | by James Brandon
This is my first post here at HDR Photog. I want to thank Scott Wyden for having me as a contributor, I wish this site much success in spreading the word of HDR photography to the world. For those that don't know me, I'm a travel and landscape photographer in Fort Worth, Texas. I got into HDR about a year ago and instantly fell in love with what this type of processing can offer. The image above is as close to real as it gets. Nothing is over or under saturated, the colors have not been manipulated, nothing has been removed or painted in. This was taken in Laguna Beach beneath the cliffs of the Montage Beach Resort with a 5DMII. I shot the image with a 15mm fisheye lens but tried to make the horizon as straight as I could so it wouldn't be so obvious (you can see it start to fall off on the left side). It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen, and the tide was coming in just in time for this shot. The sun was seconds away from setting and cooler colors were already rushing in to compete with the warm tones from the sun. Again, this is why I love HDR. Without it, I simply could not have captured this scene the way I remember it.
